Latest on Kaduna crises


News reaching us suggests that at least one person has been killed and 33 others abducted following an attack by bandits suspected to be kidnappers in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident which occurred last night within Kachia metropolis also left several people injured.

District Head of Kachia ward, Idris Suleiman confirmed the incident when security operatives led by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan visited the area.


Suleiman said the bandits in their large numbers invaded the community at about 9pm on Wednesday night and started shooting sporadically in a bid to create panic among the residents.

He explained that the bandits first attacked a bakery where they kidnaped five persons and killed the driver to the owner of the bakery, before moving to another area called Mother Cat where they also kidnapped 28 persons including a pregnant woman.

According to him, the bandits also looted several shops within the town after the traders abandoned their shops and scampered for safety to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Bandits have in recent times left Kaduna in a state of unrest, with many being killed and many others being kidnapped, including students of various institutions.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar, and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deserves to be celebrated.

Mugabe Says He’s Under House Arrest – Zuma


President Robert Mugabe is under house arrest in Zimbabwe, South African President Jacob Zuma said in a statement on Wednesday after the Zimbabwean military appeared to have taken control of the country.

President Zuma who spoke to President Robert Mugabe reported that the latter had indicated that he was confined to his home but said that he was fine.

Gambians on the ground will not have access to social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Viber, Tango, and snap chat.

5,000 PDP Members Dump Party In Niger State

        



Barely two weeks after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had its local government congress nationwide, over 5,000 members have dumped the party owing to discrepancies in Chanchaga Local Government Area.


Lamenting the level of favouritism and godfatherism experienced during the congress, the leader of the group, Dr. Jibrin Datti Balarebe, said that the process was manipulated by the party leadership to favour prefered candidates.

Injured Journalists In Oshiomhole’s Convoy Receive N15m Repreive

Four years after the fatal accident that involved the convoy of Governor Adams Oshiomhole that led to the death of three journalists; George Okosun, Olatunji Jacobs and Fidelis Ohani of a local television and radio station and African Independent Television (AIT) and several others injured, relief yesterday came the way of seven of the other journalists in the convoy who had been undergoing serious health challenges majorly relating to fracture as the government promised N15million as succour and immediately directed a medical review of their situation for further action.

The accident happened on April the 28, 2012, when Oshiomhole then seeking a second term went on campaign to parts of Edo north senatorial district.
Four of the victims have challenges with their legs while three others are facing different challenges.

Oyo Stops Payment Of WAEC Fees For Students, Introduces Education Levy

The Oyo State Government would no longer pay the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) registration fees for students, Mr Soji Eniade, the State Head of Service has said.

Eniade also said that from the 2015/2016 Academic Session, students would pay annual Education Development Levy of N3,000.
This is contained in a state issued on Wednesday in Ibadan by Eniade.
The statement is titled: “Efforts of Oyo State Government to Address Poor Performance of Students in Public Secondary Schools.”
He said that government took the decision in order to guard against poor performances of students in public schools.

Igbo Leaders Forgive Oba Of Lagos, Endorse Ambode

Amid bickering caused by comments made by the Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu about the Igbos for their perceived massive support for the opposition in the state, the Igbo leaders in Lagos State on Wednesday said they have forgiven the monarch and moved on with their lives.


The Igbo leaders in the state who made this known after a meeting with the traditional rulers in Amuwo Odofin Local Government, at the council Secretariat, Festac Town Lagos said they had also unanimously endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of Ndi Eze, Lagos, Eze Dr. Gordian Dim refuted the hatred comment being circulated in the social media with regards the Oba of Lagos comment, saying it is meant to cause disaffection between the tribe and the monarch

He said, “What transpired at the Oba’s palace was not what was painted by some media organizations. I engineered the whole process, and I can say confidently to you that the Oba statement was misconstrued and should be discarded.

US Imposes Sanctions On Members Of Hezbollah’s Nigeria-Based ‘Foreign Relations Department’

The U.S. government has imposed sanction on three Hezbollah figures, an amusement park and a supermarket based in Nigeria, according to the International Business Times.
Mustapha Fawaz, Fouzi Fawaz and Abdallah Tahini, all born in Lebanon, are accused of being part of the group’s “Foreign Relations Department” in the Nigerian capital Abuja.
Hezbollah is designated as a terrorist group by the U.S., while the European Union and the United Nations consider only the groups armed wing, not its political branch, a terrorist organization. Hezbollah has operated in at least 45 nations, 11 of which are in Africa, according to Now Lebanon.
