Village Head, Wife Kidnapped By Gunmen In Ibadan

A village head in Ibadan, Tafa Apanpa and his wife, have been kidnapped by gunmen.

Apanpa who is the Baale of Araromi was taken alongside his wife after the kidnappers stormed the Bakatari area of Ibadan late on Tuesday.

Witnesses say the kidnappers abducted the village and his wife was kidnapped while it was raining heavily in the dead of night.

It remains uncertain what direction the gunmen took the couple to and the kidnappers are yet to make any contact with relatives as regards a ransom.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public relations officer, Adewale Osifeso said all hands are on deck to get the victims back.

News reaching us suggests that at least one person has been killed and 33 others abducted following an attack by bandits suspected to be kidnappers in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The incident which occurred last night within Kachia metropolis also left several people injured.

District Head of Kachia ward, Idris Suleiman confirmed the incident when security operatives led by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan visited the area.

Suleiman said the bandits in their large numbers invaded the community at about 9pm on Wednesday night and started shooting sporadically in a bid to create panic among the residents.

He explained that the bandits first attacked a bakery where they kidnaped five persons and killed the driver to the owner of the bakery, before moving to another area called Mother Cat where they also kidnapped 28 persons including a pregnant woman.

According to him, the bandits also looted several shops within the town after the traders abandoned their shops and scampered for safety to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

Bandits have in recent times left Kaduna in a state of unrest, with many being killed and many others being kidnapped, including students of various institutions.

Enugu traditional ruler dies after he was beaten up by his subjects (photos)

The traditional ruler of Ogbosinne Autonomous Community, in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Igwe Stephen Nwatu, has died after he was reportedly beaten up by his subjects yesterday June 11th.

 According to reports, the monarch was beaten up after he attempted to stop some of his kinsmen from attending a meeting with the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

The monarch allegedly ordered his driver to overrun his subjects who were adamant on going for the meeting. The driver refused to obey the monarch's order and as the driver made an attempt to reverse the monarch's car, he mistakenly knocked down an elderly man and crushed his legs.

This got the youths infuriated and about 200 of them descended on the monarch and gave him the beating of his life. He was rushed to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, (ESUTH) Parklane, where he died from the injuries he sustained from the beating.

Banking activities has been paralysed today the 23rd of May, Banks were closed to customers today in Sagamu because they were no Armored tanks around. Banks in Sagamu usually open to customers only when there is presence of Police personnel and Armored tanks but the Police didn't come today and there is no official report from the police yet.

Sweden distributes "be prepared for war" leaflet to all 4.8m homes

The Swedish government has started sending out information leaflets to the 4.8 million households in the country, telling them what to do in the event of a war.

This comes one month after Russian state-owned television explained to Russians how to stock their bunkers with water and basic foodstuffs in case a war breaks out.



The pamphlet distributed by the Swedish government, titled Om krisen eller kriget kommer (If crisis or war comes), explains how people can secure basic needs such as food, water and heat, what warning signals mean, where to find bomb shelters and how to contribute to Sweden’s “total defence”.

Winnie Mandela hospitalized in Johannesburg

The anti-apartheid veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, has been hospitalised for a kidney infection but is expected to make a full recovery.

TimesLive, quoting her spokesman Victor Dlamini, said the 81-year-old had complained of a “loss of appetite” and that “one of her legs was painful”.

She was taken to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Sunday.

“Upon admission‚ it was discovered that she had an infection that had affected her kidneys. She is expected to make a full recovery and should spend approximately a week at the hospital‚” Dlamini was quoted as saying in a statement on Tuesday night.

14-Year-Old Nigerian Boy, Timothy Adeoye Goes Missing In London.

A 14-year-old Nigerian boy, Timothy Adeoye, has been declared missing from Enfield area in London. According to media reports, the teenager went missing on Friday, November 11 and has not been seen since then. Ooni’s Final Rites: Palace Warns Residents To Stay Indoors For Oro Deity

The residents of the ancient town of Ile-Ife, have been warned to remain indoors for the Oro deity to observe the final funeral rites for the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), it was observed that the palace town criers were going round the town announcing that residents, especially commercial drivers and motorcyclists should stay indoors between 7 am and 6 pm.
