Four years after the fatal accident that involved the convoy of Governor Adams Oshiomhole that led to the death of three journalists; George Okosun, Olatunji Jacobs and Fidelis Ohani of a local television and radio station and African Independent Television (AIT) and several others injured, relief yesterday came the way of seven of the other journalists in the convoy who had been undergoing serious health challenges majorly relating to fracture as the government promised N15million as succour and immediately directed a medical review of their situation for further action.
The accident happened on April the 28, 2012, when Oshiomhole then seeking a second term went on campaign to parts of Edo north senatorial district.
Four of the victims have challenges with their legs while three others are facing different challenges.
The plight of the journalists who are staff of the state’s ministry of information, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and National Orientation Agency (NOA), was brought before the governor when the leadership of the state executive council led by Sir Roland Osakue, paid a courtesy call on the governor where the governor directed that the victims be brought before him.
Oshiomhole, who personally accessed the victims, however regretted the seeming abandonment which he said may be as a result of breakdown in communication because “we said government will take care of their bills and that was never reversed or stopped. Why will they discharge them when they are not yet okay?”
