Atleast1.1m Persons Likely To Die From North-East Nigeria Crisis – UNDP

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has projected that over 1.1 million persons are likely to die from the crisis in the North-East region of Nigeria.

This was contained in a report by the UNDP on the impact of the insurgency in the region presented in a virtual meeting by the country director, Mohammed Yahaya on Thursday in Abuja.

According to Yahaya, at least 35,000 people have so far been killed directly by the insurgents, with 350,000 said to have died indirectly as a result of the crisis.

On the socioeconomic impact of the crisis on the northeast states, he says $27.8 billion have been lost in GDP, plunging at least 1.4 million people into poverty.

The report further showed at least 1.8 million children in the northeast are not enrolled in schools as a result of the conflict.

Facebook, along with Google, Apple and Amazon, are in the sights of Macron and other EU leaders over their use of low-tax countries such as Ireland to reduce their corporate tax rate to nominal levels.

Macron “is looking to start a dialogue” with tech bosses “to have discussions that will sometimes be frank and direct, to talk about regulation and international governance,” an aide said.

Zuckerberg has been invited along with around 60 other tech bosses including Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Uber’s Dara Khosrowshahi, IBM’s Ginni Rometty, SAP’s Bill McDermott and Jimmy Wales from Wikimedia.

Israeli Man Files Restraining Order Against God

                                            

A man in Israel apparently doesn’t want God to answer his prayers, so he’s filed a restraining order against the Almighty.

The plaintiff, identified as David Shoshan, appeared in a courtroom in Haifa on Tuesday demanding that God stop interfering in his life, according to NRG, an Israeli news website.

Shoshan told the court that over the last three years, God had been very negative towards him, though court documents didn’t detail any specifics, the Times of Israel noted.

France's Jean-Marie Le Pen has been expelled from the far-right National Front (FN) following a feud with daughter and party leader Marine.

Mr Le Pen, who was honorary president, was dismissed after a three-hour extraordinary party congress.

Lawal Babafemi a 35 year old Nigerian man was sentenced to 22 years in prison by a US court in Brooklyn yesterday August 12th for receiving weapons training from al Qaeda's Yemeni affiliate and writing rap lyrics, among other contributions, for the group's English-language media operations.

A Libyan court on Tuesday sentenced to death Saif’ al-Islam Gaddafi, son of late dictator, Moamer Gaddafi, and eight former officials on charges related to killings during the 2011 uprising that ended his father’s rule.

The Criminal Court in Tripoli also sentenced to death by firing squad Gaddafi’s intelligence chief, Abdullah Senussi, and former Prime Ministers, Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi and Abuzaid Dorda.

A Pakistani Minister has said 84 people have died in a Taliban attack on a school in northwestern city of Peshawar.

on Tuesday, killing 20 students and one soldier, the highest-profile militant attack to hit the troubled region in months.The attack began in the morning hours, with the gunmen entering the school, a military-run facility with students in grades 1—10 and shooting at random, said police officer Javed Khan.Army commandos quickly arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with the gunmen, he said.
