Nominations in the various categories of the popular Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have been announced, with October 1, the psychological thriller by Kunle Afolayan, making an impressive outing with nominations in 13 categories of the award scheme.
The unveiling on Wednesday night was broadcast live across Africa, with popular television personalities Nick Mutuma of Mashariki Mixand Sika Osei of 53 Extra as host of the show.
As the nominations were announced, the hosts, in a pre-recorded chat, took on head jury of the awards, Femi Odugbemi, who provided insights into the creative ingenuity of African cinema in recent times.
While the broadcast was one, Multichoice played host to members of the press and some Nigerian actors and filmmakers who submitted entries for the competition.
Hosted by notable MC Ikpomwosa Osakodiuwa (IK), the event which held at the Fourpoints by Sheraton had notable names such as Kunle Afolayan, Rita Dominic, Segun Arinze, Mildred Okwo, Olisa Adibua, Tunde Kelani and Femi Odugbemi, Managing Director Multichoice John Ugbe, Regional Director (M-Net, West Africa) Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu and M-Net (West Africa)’s head of production Yibo Koko.
Mba-Uzoukwu, who revealed that over 2 000 entries were received for the awards this year, said fans are expected to start voting immediately.
Since the maiden edition in 2013, the AMVCA has celebrated the contributions of African filmmakers, actors and technicians to the success of the continent’s film and television industry.
Sponsored by Amstel Malta, the third edition is scheduled to hold on March 7, 2015.
