Lagos State Police Command has arrested a herbalist who allegedly killed a 62- year-old woman in the metropolis. |
The herbalist, Isiaka Akanbi,was said to have killed Raliatu Kareem at his makeshift office on Lawani Street, Olodi-Apapa, in Lagos State.
The policemen attached to Tolu police station were said to have arrested Akanbi, who claimed that he did not kill the woman but that when she died in his office, he quickly dumped the corpse at the Marine Beach, Apapa.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that nobody saw any corpse at Marine Beach since the incident occurred on October 25, 2014.The victim, Mrs Kareem who lived at Ope -Ewe street, Ijaiye, Alagbado area, was said to have visited her elder sister’s daughter who had put to bed at Olodi- Apapa area.
The woman also decided to visit the ritualist but unknown to her she would never return to tell the story.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the suspect, Akanbi, took possession of Kareem’s items such as handsets, bangles and ring, and buried them at the back of his residence to forestall any trace.
Akanbi and Kaeem are both from Kwara State and had known each other since 1986. After Kareem’s sister who resides at Salubi Street, Olodi Apapa, waited for over 24-hours and could not reach her on phone, she became apprehensive and later went to the ritualist’s workshop.
A police source at Panti where the case was transferred to, said the woman was murdered on the same day. The police source said Akanbi also buried her personal effects in the backyard, so that the alleged incident would not be traced to him.
He said: “Two days after Kareem had not returned home as she promised, the family became apprehensive and went on her trail to Olodi Apapa. After failing to locate Kareem at the relation’s apartment, the family headed for the alfa’s workshop, where they got to find out the truth.”
The case was reported at the Tolu police division, he said.
According to him, the 55-year-old Akanbi confessed to the police that he did not kill the woman, but she had died in his workshop.
Akanbi added that when he realized the woman was dead, he buried her personal effects to
erase any trace of her in his house, and took the corpse to Marine bridge, abandoning it there”.
The Kareems believed that Akanbi probably dumped the corpse inside the lagoon. They were bent on seeing the corpse of the victim because nobody saw any corpse at Massrine Beach. They said it was a cock and bull story.
